What Is a Whiplash Injury?
Whiplash is the term used to describe a neck injury caused by a sudden movement of the head forwards, backwards or sideways. It often occurs after a road traffic accident where the sudden impact causes vigorous movement of the head that damages the ligaments and tendons in the neck.
What Are The Symptoms of Whiplash?
Common symptoms include:
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Tenderness of the neck muscles
- Reduced and painful neck movements
- Headaches
Do I need to see a doctor about whiplash?
It is important to see your doctor to ensure you receive medical care but it is also vitally important you get the best legal team on your side too. And at Recovery Assist we pride ourselves on being just that.
How much is whiplash compensation?
For soft tissue injuries/whiplash symptoms to the neck, back or shoulders that last no more than 24 months compensation is now fixed by a government tariff, banded by severity of symptoms. They are set out in the table below. There are small 'add-ons' if you've suffered minor psychological injuries as a result of the accident and the courts have the power to increase a payout by up to 20%, in exceptional cases. Not all road traffic accidents are affected however and the best way to find out is to give us a call; we will be able to advise you as to which compensation method will apply to you and to give you more detailed advice.
